The end of August is usually a happy time for me. It marks the beginning of the fall season (my favorite) and the month I was born, September. Things were a bit different last year, as I was met with one of the most difficult challenges I have ever faced in my life, the murder of my father.

This has been a challenging season for my family and me. We have a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the incident and we’re still coping with the void. Lately, I haven’t felt comfortable around my mom and siblings because they tell me that I look a lot like my dad. At one point I thought about distancing myself to keep from hurting them. (I don’t want my presence to remind them of my dad).

As you can imagine, I have had many racing thoughts about what happens next. I’ve tried to figure things out on my own and yet the path remains unclear. One day, as I was walking, I heard these words, “It’s not your job to figure it out; it’s your job to follow Me.” I instantly felt the pressure and anxiety leave my body.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. -Proverbs 3:5-6 —–> WHEW!

God reminded me in that moment that nothing takes Him by surprise. He saw the event before I experienced it, and He has things already figured out for me and my family. All we must do is follow Him. So, I’m learning to acknowledge Him each day and walk in His direction.

If you are facing a difficult challenge, don’t try to go at it alone. Our loving Father is here, and He is concerned about every detail of your life. Take a moment and ask Him for direction. He’ll show you the next step to take. FYI–don’t expect Him to show you the entire path at once. This is a faith walk!

I have great joy knowing that even though my earthly father is gone, Abba Father is very present with me. He is with you, too!
